The Business Coalition for Education Reform (BCER) has recently released a report on math and science skills in the classroom and their effect on business.  “The Formula for Success:  A Business Leader’s Guide to Supporting Math and Science Achievement” is available on the internet at:  http://www.bcer.org/timss/index.htm

The Third International Math and Science Study (TIMSS) tested fourth, eighth and twelfth grade students worldwide in general math and science knowledge.  The results suggest an alarming trend has developed in the United States.  Although our fourth grade students placed third overall in science, by the twelfth grade the students’ scores had dropped into fifteenth place.  The BCER report explores the implications of these test scores and how business can take part in shaping the future of math and science education.
