SUMMER 1999 CHIP CAMP

Dear Counselor:

A three-day resident Summer Chip Camp will be co-sponsored by the Maricopa Advanced Technology Education Center (a division of Maricopa County Community Colleges), and the High Technology Industry Cluster/School to Work Partnership. The Camp will be held June 2-4 at the Williams Campus of Chandler-Gilbert Community College and Arizona State University East located at 6001 South Power Road, Building 410, Mesa, Arizona.

As the co-chairs of Chip Camp II, we are soliciting your assistance in targeting and recruiting students for this year’s Chip Camp, sponsored by our partnership.

Sixty high school sophomores and juniors will be recruited from high schools throughout the Phoenix metro area to attend Chip Camp II.

The participants will be immersed in three days of education and recreation. The chip camp will provide the attendees an opportunity to participate in electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, computer science and mathematics short courses taught by high school and community college faculty. In addition to the short courses, the participants will accompany faculty and industry representatives on tours of the major semiconductor companies located in the valley.

Enclosed you will find a poster to advertise Chip Camp II to your students, brochures to hand out to those who show interest and a Student Application Packet, which contains all the necessary forms and materials that you will need. Please read and familiarize yourself with the contents of this packet, as you will serve as the key contact in identifying interested students.

A Chip Camp Operations Coordinator will be contacting you soon, in our effort to disseminate the Chip Camp recruitment package.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact MATEC via e-mail, matec@matec.org or by phone (602) 517-8665.

Thank you for your support. We are confident that with your help and guidance, we will make Chip Camp II a successful event for your student(s).
